years of construction experience and a commitment to continuing
education and civic involvement. AJ brings a professional and
progressive approach to the construction industry.

AJ Stones Design Contractor is a full-service design/build
construction company, specializing in energy efficient,
environmentally conscious building and remodeling. Since
1988, the company's many projects in the Pittsburgh area
have included:

major renovations;

additions, including family rooms;

kitchen remodels;

bathroom remodels;
-
new porches and decks and
-
window and door replacements.

AJ’s time is split between production and administration.
During a project, AJ is responsible for:

carpentry;
-
scheduling subcontractors and labor;
-
purchase and delivery of materials;
-
securing permits and inspections; and
-
overseeing all phases of construction to ensure quality
work.

AJ’s administrative
responsibilities include sales, marketing, estimating costs, and
budgeting. He also chooses and coordinates the design teams.

Awards
AJ has received three Remodeler of the Year
awards from the Pittsburgh chapter of NARI:
- Bathroom
renovation: First place (1997) in the kitchen and bathroom
category;
- Basement
renovation: Second place (1994) in the interior improvements
category and
- Exterior
renovation: Third place (1998).

Civic
Involvement / Leadership
- AJ
served as an officer of the Pittsburgh chapter of NARI
from 1997–1998, including a term as President.
- AJ
served on the steering committee to establish Lead
Safe Pittsburgh and has been an active board member
since its inception.

Environmental
and Lead Safe Work
- In
1993, AJ helped found the Green
Builders Alliance (GBA), a local organization whose
purpose is to educate the building industry, design professionals,
and the public about green building principles.
- As
Vice President of the Pittsburgh chapter of NARI
in 1997, AJ sponsored a joint venture between NARI and the
Department
of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) on lead safe
remodeling. AJ administered the program and participated
in the training.
- AJ
continues to be involved with Lead
Safe Pittsburgh.
